Six ways to remember someone who is no longer with us
Around All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day, we think especially of those we have lost. Six small, personal ways to keep a loved one close.

At the beginning of November, many people take extra time to remember those they have lost. Perhaps you are looking for a way to keep that person close to you for the rest of the year as well.
Short answer: There is no right way to grieve or remember. Small rituals help, as does something tangible: a piece of handwriting, a line drawing from a photo, or their own clothing that you start wearing yourself. Choose what feels right for you, and take your time.
1. Do what they loved to do
Cook their favorite dish. Put on their music. Walk the route they always used to take. These are small things, but they provide the feeling that someone still has a place in your life, in a different way.
2. Keep their handwriting with you
Do you still have a card, a note on the fridge, or a grocery list? Handwriting is as personal as a voice. We can embroider it exactly as it was written: a "love, mom," a signature, or that one word they always wrote.
Small on the chest or on the sleeve, where only you know what it means. You can find it under all personalizations.
3. Have a drawing made from a photo together
Louise can hand-convert a photo of the two of you, or of them alone, into a simple line drawing. It doesn't become a realistic portrait, which is exactly why it feels so soft. You will receive the design by email first, and adjustments are always welcome. Read about which photos work best first.
This also applies to a pet that is no longer with us. That loss is just as real.
4. Give their clothing a second life
Giving away their sweater or shirt feels wrong, but leaving it hanging in the closet does too. You can start wearing it yourself, with a small embroidery that makes it yours: a name, a date, a word.
We can also embroider your own piece of clothing. Let us know first via WhatsApp or info@ticenits.be, and we will check together if the fabric is suitable. You can also simply come and drop it off at our studio in Ghent.
5. Create a place in your home
A photo in a beautiful frame, a plant they gave you, a box with cards and memories. A permanent place where you can take a moment. For children, it often helps to have something tangible, such as a blanket with the name of a grandparent.
6. Remember together
Grief can be lonely, but sharing memories is not. Make an appointment every year on a fixed day with family or friends: their birthday, or perhaps All Souls' Day. Share stories, eat together. Some families all wear the same small detail that day, as a quiet sign that they belong together.
Take your time
Having something made in memory does not have to happen immediately. Sometimes you only know what you want after months or years. Would you like to talk about it before deciding? Feel free to send us a message. We will take the time for you.
And if you are struggling with loss, talk to someone about it. At Tele-Onthaal, you can reach out day and night by calling 106.
